The building, a 10,000 sq/ft recently fully-restored 19th-century Dutch Walawa, lies two miles north of Weligama bay and its sandy beaches. Surrounded by coconut groves on its southern flank, the Weeraman is a two storey building reminiscent of a French Chateau.
In typical Kandyan Style, the building is centered upon an internal courtyard. A hallway of polished cement runs along a veranda looping around three sides of the courtyard.
The entrance to the living room is particularly impressive, the doorway surmounted by an elaborate arch.


The Property
The front veranda and the courtyard are broad sweeping affairs, bracketed by wooded doorways and majestic carved pillars furnished with colonial antiquities and plants.
The ground floor has two large elegantly decorated dining/sitting rooms.
A chequered-floored, well-equipped kitchen and expansive dining room occupy the ground floor on the east side of the courtyard. Elegant lights of metallic black, designed by Sri Lanka's famous artist Saskia Pringers, are suspended above a robust polished-cement formal dining table, with seating for 16 persons.
To the right, a cantilevered staircase rises to three rooms on the upper floor.
The courtyard veranda also provides the entrance to 4 of the 6 bedrooms of the property.

The Location
Only 5 hours from Dubai, Hong Kong, Malaysia or Singapore. The Weeraman Walawa is located in Weligama on Sri Lanka's exotic south coast, some 20 minutes south to the UN World Hertiage site of Galle Fort and Buddhist temples, rainforest, lowland tea plantations, wild life reserves within easy reach. The famous Weligama Bay Sandy beaches are merely minutes away from the Weeraman Walawa, as the property is located a mere 2.5km from the beach.
Koggle airport is also conveniently located 15m from the property. The Weligama train station is located at the end of the road.
In December 2011 Sri Lanka's first highway Colombo to the city of Galle was completed. Its completion resulted in a reduced travel time of only 90 minutes from Colombo to the south. In 2013 this highway was extended to Matara with an exit at Weligama, thereby opening up the Southern Coastal area of Sri Lanka for further development.

The Sinhalese Buddhist culture has had a multiple of Indian, Portuguese, Dutch and British influences over the last 400 years and all of these fascinating cultures are still visible throughout the various cultural sites in Sri Lanka.
